Description
Fritillaria persica (Persian Lily) will take the humdrum out of your mid-spring garden with its strong, vertical spikes of deep purple bell-shaped flowers. This elegant flower was introduced to gardens in the late 1500s and has been well-loved ever since. Glossy blue-green foliage adds an extra layer of interest as well. Persian Lily is lovely in the company of other mid-spring flowers such as tulip, daffodil and other Fritillaria. Resistant to deer and rabbits, plant this drought tolerant bulb in groups of three or more for best effect. The flowers can vary from deep plum to a brownish green from year to year and will do best in a full sun setting with well-drained soil. Some shade is okay; it will get taller with more sun. It doesn’t tolerate wet soils well, so be sure to have fast draining soil. 28-32″ tall x 12-18″ wide.
